| Whether you are an MACM staff member, a student, a professor, a journalist or simply a lover of contemporary art, documentary research can easily become a real headache. This guide describes the Media Centre's various documentary resources so that you can plan your search more efficiently and thus improve the quality of the results obtained. A glance at the following links will give you an overview of our resources and the tools used to locate them. |

CUBIQ Catalogue |

| Since 1991, the Media Centre catalogue has been integrated with Québec's online government library network RIBG. Via the Internet, you can consult CUBIQ, the combined catalogue of Québec government libraries. The Media Centre's online catalogue does not yet contain all of the data related to its documentary collection, as the conversion of data for 1964-1990 has not been completed. For documents from before 1991, it is therefore preferable to also consult the card catalogue in the reading room. When you are in front of your search screen, don't hesitate to consult the detailed context-sensitive help available. You can access the Help icon at any time. By way of example, the following links will lead you to the help function for simple and combined CUBIQ searches. Simple search Combined search Some points to consider: When you start your work session, we suggest that you use the simple search method without further specification. This will yield a larger number of bibliographical entries. As well, if you type ART at the beginning of the search line and put the desired terms in parentheses, you are likely to get more entries, because the ART code allows terms to be found in more than one index at once. Directory of Exhibitions |

| The Directory of Exhibitions contains all data related to exhibitions held at the MACM since it was established in 1964. The entries include such details as the title of the event, the dates it was presented and the participating artists, as well as a list of the material produced to accompany the event. Part of this material is already available in digital form (press releases, posters, banners, invitations, biobibliographies, press reviews) and therefore accessible online. Each entry also refers to the call number of an event file available for consultation at the reference desk. Our site gives you access to a chronological directory of MACM events. We can also search the entire database for you, according to your criteria, to meet your specific needs. |

| We also offer our users the option of consulting, on-site, the databases we have access to as subscribers. Art Bibliographies Modern ABM Visual arts, from the late nineteenth century to the present. Contains bibliographical information on journal articles, books, exhibition catalogues and theses. Each entry includes an abstract. Years covered 1974- Art Index History of art, from antiquity to the present. Contains bibliographical information on journal articles as well as entries for reproductions of artworks. Years covered 1983- Art Sales Index 2005 Contains more than two million artwork entries based on the results of sales at a number of auction houses around the world. Years covered 1950-2004. Bibliographie d'histoire de l'art. BHA History of art, from antiquity to the present. It includes and extends the coverage of its two predecessor art indexes: Répertoire d'Art et d'Archéologie (RAA) from 1973 to 1989 and International Repertory of the Literature of Art (RILA) from 1975 to 1989. Contains journals, books, conference proceedings, essays, exhibition catalogues, doctoral dissertations. Years covered 1973- Design and Applied Arts Index. DAAI Design and applied arts periodicals from the mid nineteenth century to the present. Disciplines including ceramics, glass, jewellery, wood, metalsmithing, graphic design, fashion and clothing, textiles, furniture, interior design, architecture, computer aided design, Web design, computer-generated graphics, animation, product design, industrial design, garden design, and landscape architecture. Years covered 1973- Grove Art Online Comprises the full text of The Dictionary of Art, edited by Jane Turner (1996, 34 vols) and The Oxford Companion to Western Art, edited by Hugh Brigstocke (2001) and update. Years covered 1996- Price Database Auction sales results from more than 2.9 million artworks by more than 180,000 international artists. Include records from over 500 international auction houses. Color-illustrated. Years covered 1985- Repère Multidisciplinary French-language database. Contains bibliographical information on Québec, French and Belgian journals. Electronic Reference |

| In addition to our reference service provided on site or by telephone, fax or mail, an electronic reference service is also available to you. This service is designed to help you at any point in your search. We reply to e-mail requests Tuesday through Friday, from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m., local time. Formulate the type of information you are looking for as specifically as possible. The clearer and more precise your question, the easier it will be for us to provide you with the appropriate information.
